MarketingProfs has released a very interesting report today that illustrates the shrinking gap between generations when using the internet. The report is important for marketers using online strategies over traditional marketing, because it narrows down the number of tactics needed to reach each generation. For instance, an average of 94% of adults age 18+ are using email. As a marketer it is good to know, because it emphasizes the importance of a smart email marketing campaign.

Look at the chart below, and you will be surprised to see the similarities between Generation Y and X. They are almost identical. The only time they grow apart is when, for example, watching an online video, using social network, or chatting is involved. The one data that really surprised me is that only 43% and 34% of generation Y and X, respectively, read a blog. I thought this number would be higher.
