From My Marketing Diary: Inbound Marketing Thoughts

As I travel through my journey of learning Inbound Marketing, I cannot stop but thinking how lucky I am to live in such a great era, and be a part of a unique generation that is literally changing the way companies engage their customers, and the way that we as people engage each other.

I have friends from all over the world that I have never met or spoken before, but yet I feel as if we have known each other for years. I like that, I always have, and I think it is one of the reasons why I enjoy doing what I do.

I do not think that being an Inbound marketer, or a Social Media marketer, is for everyone. I think it requires a certain type of attitude toward life, and a certain type of personality that a lot  of people simply do not have.

Attitude is everything. You can be the smartest person in the business, with lots of money, best education, and a great position. But, if you lack the right attitude you simply cannot be that person who does Inbound Marketing, or social media for that matter. I see it around me more often than I should, and it saddest me.

I look at social media as something that was created by the people and for the people. Simple. A social media marketer, or an Inbound marketer, needs to come from the “people”, someone who speaks the “people” language. So when I see someone with a suit, reading slides from power point, and does not look me in the eyes when he tries to talk about how great twitter is, that saddest me.

Attitude is everything, and if you cannot learn to adjust to speak the “people” language” than you are not an Inbound marketer, you are simply a marketer.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
